The event that started Le Tournoi off – what was initially intended as being a one-off corporate get-together

back in 2001 proved to be so popular that it quickly became an annual fixture, and from where the ethos of every other Le Tournoi challenge was developed.

The annual Le Tournoi Soccer Challenge is now the biggest community football event of its kind in Jersey. We cater for up to 1,200 players between the ages of 5 and 55 and take up almost every blade of grass within the 1-mile diameter cycle track – a phenomenal achievement that has transformed community football and which has raised around £80,000 for charity.

The event is supported by top UK professional club academies including Arsenal, Everton and Southampton and raises funds for local charities.

We are proud to have developed the only football event in the Channel Islands which caters for teams of all ages and both genders. Whether you are five or fifty five, there is an age group for you or your team and we would be delighted to see you in June 2014.

The 2014 Football Challenge will be taking place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June. Register your interest by e-mail now to be placed on the mailing list for further updates as they come out.

Well we managed to find a 48-hour period of blazing sunshine – hard to believe but for the tenth time in twelve years the Football Challenge was blessed with great weather and great football. Although slightly down on numbers from the previous year, the 2012 event will be remembered for being hassle-free, friendly and the first to welcome our Patron, the Lieutenant Governor.

Congratulations to Evergreen Water for winning their first Le Tournoi, by beating Joao Marques 2-1 in a fantastic final. And well done to NatWest IPB for taking the Plate title, defeating CI Co-Op in the Plate final. The children's challenges were also great events - 68 kids teams braved the on/off weather over the weekend to enjoy a real festival of football and music.

Well, what can we say that the weekend itself didn't say for itself? Glorious weather and fantastic pitches helped make this the best Le Tournoi to date.

Congratulations to 365 Tickets for regaining their crown which was temporarily relinquished to HSBC last year.

Congratulations to HSBC International for regaining their crown as Le Tournoi Champions for 2009, beating RBC Custody 1 - 0 in the final. And congratulations also to Monte FC, our first UK entry, for beating CPA 1 by three goals to one in the final of the Mens Plate Challenge. Temperatures soared on both days to make it a real scorcher.

What a weekend! The Soccer Challenge has finally come of age and now justifiably ranks amongst the best fundraising events in Jersey. With 200 kids attending the Community Coaching day at Springfield on Friday, an estimated 500 joining the Waterfront party on Friday evening and 1,100 players aged between 5 and 55 playing at Les Quennevais over the weekend there are few events that come close.
