The Jersey Golf Development group ran their 2nd Golf Festival for primary schools on Monday 18th June at Longueville Driving Range. This year's event was sponsored by Le Tournoi. Over 350 year three children from 10 primary schools attended a full day's golfing activities and challenges.
Throughout the year the children have all received free Tri-Golf coaching in their school curriculum. The JGD group have been working closely with the Golf Foundation and David Kennedy of ESC to identify Primary schools that would benefit the most from receiving Professional coaching in Tri-Golf in the school timetable. The response from both pupils and teachers has been extemely rewarding, with more children learning that sport can be enjoyed at all levels of abilities regardless of the sport they choose to play.
At this year's Golf Festival (which ran from 9.15am - 2.30pm), local professionals Tommy Horton and Wayne Stephens opened the Festival with a "Masterclass" demonstration, followed by 350 children participating in over 28 Tri-Golf challenges. The day was closed by PGA Professional Matt Nicolle attempting to break his own "Long Driving" record. Matt is the current Long Driving champion of Jersey.
The JGD Group would like to thank Trevor Gray for the use of Longueville Driving Range, plus several PGA Professionals, ESC team, and volunteers from Highlands College for offering their help on the day. Additional thanks go to the event's sponsors.
