The Le Tournoi Sailing Challenge 2008

Cost of Entering a Boat

 

The total cost of sponsoring a boat will be announced in February but it is anticipated that the cost of entering a yacht will be £5,500.

 

A deposit of £2,000 will be required, payable to Le Tournoi Charity Sports.

 

In addition to the final entry fee, entrants must undertake to raise a charitable contribution of at least £1,000 which is payable in full prior to the start of the Challenge.

 

The entry cost covers:

 

  • Yacht charter
  • Foul weather clothing
  • Corporate banners
  • Corporate forestay flag
  • Corporate hull stickers
  • Corporate photo pack
  • Marina fees
  • Social events in Guernsey, Jersey and Cowes
  • Committee boat and logistics for Race Director and Committee.

 

Additional costs:

 

All travel and accommodation organisation is the responsibility of the event participants.

Skippers are responsible for ensuring they have all necessary charts for the sailing courses and surrounding area.

Information required on individual participants

 

Completion of the Individual Participant details form located via the Form Downloads section.

 

Prior to each race a crew sign in sheet will be completed by each individual, this will include the Le Tournoi terms and conditions viewable via the Form Downloads section.

Completion of Sunsail event and Group Charter Booking Forms, inclusive of security deposit details.

Participant Clothing

 

A range of discounted Gill clothing is available via Le Tournoi, click here or please see Form Downloads section for details. All items will be embroidered with the Sailing Challenge and your corporate logos.

Please note Sunsail provide all foul weather gear when collecting the boats at Port Solent, this will include jacket and salopetttes and life jackets.

Race Management

  • RYA official responsible for race management matters in the Channel Islands
  • Overall governance of technical and logistical aspects of the race
  • Adherence to the racing Rules of sailing 2005-2008
  • Appointment of Race officials
  • Sailing Instructions

 

Organising Authority – Portsmouth Harbour Yacht Club (PHYC)

 

 

  • Publish Notice of Race
  • Appoint Race Committee
  • Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions Publications
  • The Sailing Instructions will also be published and downloadable via the Form Downloads section in due course.

 

Crew Requirements

 

The Sunfast 37’s can take 8 crew members, this must comprise of at least:

 

Skipper


Yachtmaster certificated and be able to provide a Sailing CV.

 

2 Competent Crew


Evidence experience either by Certification or Sailing CV.

 

Remaining Crew


May comprise of novice sailors but some practical yachting experience is required.

 

All crew members have to be self sourced however Le Tournoi is approached by freelancers should you require assistance – these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

 

 

Crew Training Sessions

Team Development and Leadership Training

Le Tournoi have partnered with Will Carnegie to offer crews the opportunity of Team Development and Leadership training pre the event. Will skippered Veritas in the BT Global Challenge in 2001 and works as a professional consultant providing team development skills to Corporates globally.

 

This training is included in the cost of the boat and will enable your crews, as individuals and as a team, to prepare themselves for the challenge ahead.

 

  • Crew Formation - The key principles behind forming and developin teams.
  • First Storm - Preparing for and leading through high pressure situations.
  • Sustaining High Performance - Sustaining success and effectiveness.
  • Integrating new Team members - Developing new team players effectively.

Training sessions will be provided in an afternoon or over two evenings, arrangements upon request.

 

St Helier Yacht Club

Le Tournoi is pleased to announce that St Helier Yacht Club are running a Novice Training Program this year.

 

This is to include:

 

  • Learing all the points of sailing
  • Setting the sails
  • Taking the helm
  • Rules of the road
  • Racing around the bouys in the bay
  • Skippers will rotate crew around so that they can try all the different places on the yacht

Insurance Information

Sunsail


Sunsail has £10,000,000 Public, products and Tour Operators liability cover.

Insurance details and certificate of Insurance are available via the Form Downloads section.

 

All of the yachts will comply with the Marine & Coastguard Agency small commercial vessels code of practice & RYA recognition for sailing schools.

 

Le Tournoi


Event Liability Insurance

 

  • £2,000,000 cover for any single incident.
  • Cover is to indemnify organisers against loss or damage to third parties and equipment as a result of an onshore event-driven incident.

     

Does not cover:

 

  • Losses suffered through taking part in the sailing.
  • Event cancellations due to adverse weather conditions; cancellation insurance can be arranged by individual entries. Refunds cannot be given in the event of full or part-cancellation of the Challenge.

 

Personal

 

Personal Insurance is not included and is the responsibility of the Corporate or Individual to obtain. It is understood that Snowcard level 5 insurance covers this style of event. www.snowcard.co.uk

Jeanneau Sunfast 37’s are centred towards sailing performance, optimised for all the different racing handicaps. The style of vessel provides a perfect blend of safety, racing ability and comfort for the nights on board.
