A Truly Memorable Weekend

Well, what can we say that the weekend itself didn't say for itself? Glorious weather, fantastic pitches and somewhere approaching 600 kids to make this the best Le Tournoi to date by far.

A huge thank you to Hamlyn Moon who organised the event almost single-handedly.

Over the two days, we welcomed almost 60 teams between school years 2 and 10, filling every age group for the very first time.

To think that the first three Le Tournoi events in 2001-2003 needed only six pitches and the Years 4-5 Challenge this year needed 11 pitches just to itself is a testament to just how far the event has come.

Our sincere thanks go out to Hamlyn, team coaches, referees, parents and the kids themselves - each one of them helped to make the weekend not just the biggest but the best soccer event in the island.

Over 400 kids added another medal to their collection

Every kid in the Years 2-3 and 4-5 age group was entitled to enjoy a 2-hour coaching session by six coaches from Arsenal FC who gave up their weekends voluntarily to be part of the festival.

In sweltering heat, the six of them looked after groups of up to 30 each, organising six different skills stations. The kids then spent approximately 20 minutes at each station, ensuring a good array of skills were practised during the sessions.

We see superb opportunities to build a mutually-beneficial relationship with the Arsenal in the Community Team and will start the 2011 planning process realy early to ensure we leverage this new relationship to its maximum potential.

Thanks to the guys as well for providing two exclusive VIP private tours of the Emirates for the Saturday Dinner auction, which increased the funds raised by some £500

The highlight of the weekend was the visit to the event by the biggest soccer legend ever to have graced these shores - Carlos Alberto.

All of our kids' challenges are free of charge to enter, but we do expect teams to sell a fair number of our raffle tickets to assist in covering costs and raising a donation for charity (see below)

Sadly, Colin Nell is unable to make it this year but we have secured one of the finest replacements in the game. Noel Battle is a close friend of Colin's and boasts a similar CV, having been used in numerous mainstream advertisements and he will be attending the tournament on both days to demo his amazing skills with the ball.

Premiership Coaching

Arsenal FC have kindly agreed to send us six coaches from their community development team, and we are delighted to have them over to run coaching sessions for the years 2/3 and 4/5 sections.

This has become a great feature of Le Tournoi and we are delighted that Arsenal have recognised the nature of the event. Our long-term aim is to work with a number of Premiership clubs and invite a selection of coaches over each year, along with teams from their community development initiatives to play against our own beneficiaries.

We were sad when Everton and Southampton advised that their season was still running and could not make it this year but we hope these three clubs will form the foundation of more opportunities for Jersey's kids at Le Tournoi in future years
